Bangalore Open Data Camp it is an annual unconference that aims to provide a space to discuss the challenges and experiences of using data in India with the aim of promoting an open data culture in government and the private sector. The last two Data Camps had 180 people each who came together to share and understand data better.
What is the role of data in Primary Education in India? How can Open Data assist in making education better and more accessible? These are the types of questions we are trying to understand at this year's Bangalore Open Data Camp. With the growth of the education data and analytics field and the work of organizations who are trying to demystify government data; it is time to create a space where people can come together and work through the issues they are experiencing that are unique to trying to improve education.

The Camps are organized through a Google Group called DataMeet. DataMeet comprises a group of 1000 people from across the country who use this group to share data, experiences, projects, and data tools to improve the access and understanding of data. It is primarily a civic minded group that believe data and technology can add value to the lives of citizens.

Thejesh GN is a Technologist who works with Mavrix, and DataMeet, and has a passion for open data.
India has a growing group of people who are interested in data and with the hope of improving education and how people learn. We will be inviting people from all over this spectrum like ASER and KLP.

The relationship between open data and education is what we are trying to explore at this conference so please come and give your input.
An unconference is an event that is not as structured or curated like a regular conference. This is to allow people who are there to make time and space to speak about what they are interested in and also create informal groups to come together and take ownership of the space.

Prof. Rajaram S. Sharma heads the Central Institute of Educational Technology of the NCERT. He leads initiatives in exploring appropriate applications of ICT in education, including radio and television, audio and video, web and interactive multimedia applications. He is closely associated with the implementation of the National Policy of ICT in School Education, particularly the development of a National Repository of Open Education Resources and a curriculum which aims at enabling teachers and students in meaningfully using ICT to enhance their capacities to learn.
In a career in education, spanning over twenty five years, he has been a teacher, teacher educator, trainer and researcher, exploring active methods of learning, helping childen become independent learners, enhancing teachers competency and capacity for innovation, and helping school systems explore appropriate ICT to reach out and bridge divides. He champions the Creative Commons and Free and Open Source Software applications. He can be contacted at rajaramsharma@gmail.com
Ph.D. (Demographic Projections) from University of Rajasthan, Jaipur; specialist in EMIS, Quantitative Techniques and Projections and Forecasting of Educational Data; authored books on Education for All in India, Enrolment Projections, Population Projections and Upper Primary Education and contributed a number of research articles in journals and in NUEPA occasional paper series; consulted by World Bank, UNICEF, UNESCO and ACCU (Japan); member, editorial board of Pariprekshya (A Hindi Journal), trained at UNESCO regional Office at Bangkok and Harvard Institute of International Development, USA; Developed a website on Education for All in India (http://educationforallinindia.com)
Sajjad is a Bangalore based hacktivist and programmer, building tools to scale the data team and analyze large spatial data-sets at Mapbox. He has been working closely with OpenStreetMap data and technology for over 6 years.

Parthajeet works currently as Programme Manager of Technical Co-operation Agency (TCA) supporting secondary schools improvement programme of Government of India – Rashtriya Madhyamik Shiksha Abhiyan (RMSA). TCA works closely with government (MHRD) and government agencies (NCERT and NUEPA) for better management and effective use of school education data.
Parthajeet is keen to promote use of information from students learning achievement (NAS) data, annual school census data (U-DISE) and central programmes (RMSA, SSA) for improving decision-making, planning, implementation and accountability.
Sanjay works as the Tech Lead for the Karnataka Learning Partnership, a platform for public education data in Karnataka. He is also co-founder of CAMP, a technology and arts space in Mumbai, and one of the co-initiators of the pad.ma video archive project.

Yogesh KS works as Projects Associate with IT for Change where he works on technology related projects and activities promoting the adoption of Public Software(FLOSS). He also volunteers at Free Software Movement Karnataka(FSMK) helping college students to use and contribute to open source software.
Arun has been fascinated studying the human invasion of earth ever since he stumbled upon his sister's school atlas when he was a toddler. He now spends most of his time at Mapbox working on making geography a part of everyones life.
Srinivas Kodali is a civil engineer working on Intelligent Transportation Systems and Digital Cities. He is currently working on digitizing public transport data of major Indian cities.
Director and Managing Trustee of HLC International school, an IGCSE school in Chennai. Prior to joining HLC as its Director in 2005, Naveen worked at many MNC's including Wipro, NBC and Citibank, where he specialized in providing solutions for the top investment banks around the world. Over the past decade Naveen has researched the pedagogy of numerous schools and conducted research initiatives on best teaching practices as well as diagnostic assessment of students in K-12 schools using Kognify, a cognitive assessment tool he co-developed. Kognify is currently being piloted in a few schools to test the quality of its predictive analysis, which Naveen believes will bring a great amount of individualization to the teaching and learning process in class rooms everywhere.
Sanjana leads the Changemaker Schools program at Ashoka India. With a background in youth engagement and development, Sanjana aspires to see a world where young people see themselves as active agents of change.
