====== Open Data Camp Bangalore - 2013 ====== Two day unconference for people working with data from various sectors to come together and share their projects and ideas. On 2 and 3rd of March 2013 in Bangalore ---- ====== About ====== We started as a Google group and small meetup that has grown to encompass many people, ideas, projects, solutions, and challenges that using data in India presents. This event will help foster a stronger community where lines of communication are open so that solution to problems can be found and ideas enhanced so that data can be used to make a significant impact in the lives of engaged citizens across the country. ---- ====== F.A.Q ====== == What is Data Camp Bangalore? == The 2013 Open DataCamp to be a two day unconference in Bangalore on the 2nd and 3rd of March. The first day we are planning to have a series of talks from various people in the data world, including government from NIC and the Census. We also want to explore connections between open data and RTI as well as see how open data can improve different fields from government to corporate to journalism. This includes looking at how to make data open so that it’s potential to create more accountability and transparency to improve policies and implementation of projects across industry, citizen sector organizations, and governance. The 2nd day we hope to do a hackathon and a workshop type event. The hackathon will include using data from Data.gov.in and various other open data site. Data Camp will provide that platform for Indians to work out what are the problems around getting data and using it to further their projects and enhance the impact they want to make. == Who is Organizing? == The DataMeet community are the organizers of this event, primary contacts are, Nisha Thompson and Thejesh GN. Nisha Thompson is the Project Manager for India Water Portal’s Data Project. Thejesh GN is a programmer who works at various places, including Mavrix, NextDrop, and India Water Portal, and has a passion for open data. == Who Will Be Attending? == India has a growing group of people who are interested in data and we hope to have representatives from many different disciplines. We have invited the NIC team who runs Data.Gov.In to participate and help run the hackathon. We also invited representatives from the Census to come and talk about the most significant dataset in India. Given the growing importance of data in a variety of sectors we hope to take a closer look at how data can help in a variety of sectors, from development to academia all the way to the corporate world. This event can bring together a diverse group of people with the singular goal of improving data and working with it to evaluate projects and create better outcomes. By gathering a great variety of experiences in one place we can learn from each other and improve all aspects of using data. ---- ====== Venue ====== {{:dharmaram.png|}} [[https://maps.google.co.in/maps?client=ubuntu&amp;channel=cs&amp;ie=UTF8&amp;q=Dharmaram+Vidya+Kshetram&amp;fb=1&amp;gl=in&amp;hq=Dharmaram+Vidya+Kshetram&amp;hnear=0x3bae1670c9b44e6d:0xf8dfc3e8517e4fe0,Bangalore,+Karnataka&amp;cid=0,0,11253468343780601834&amp;ll=12.933358,77.605126&amp;spn=0.006295,0.006295&amp;t=m&amp;iwloc=A&amp;output=embed | Dharmaram Vidya Kshetram (Inside Christ University Campus), Dairy Circle, Bangalore-560 029]] ---- ====== Sessions ====== ===== Day 1 ===== <HTML> <table> <tbody><tr> <td width="10%"> 9:00am - 10:00am </td> <td colspan="5"> Registration </td> </tr><tr> </tr><tr> <td> 10:00am - 10:15am </td> <td colspan="5"><b>Introduction to OpenDataCamp</b> <br> Team DataMeet </td> </tr><tr> </tr><tr> <td> 10:15am - 11.00am </td> <td colspan="5"><b>Visualizing Politics</b><br>By S Anand</td> </tr><tr> </tr><tr> <td> 11.00pm - 11.15pm </td> <td colspan="5"> Tea </td> </tr><tr> </tr><tr> <td> 11:15am - 12.15am </td> <td colspan="5"><b>Why Open Data is Good for Gov and Citizens alike</b><br> Panel: Alka Mishra (NIC Data.Gov.In), Meera K (CitizenMatters) and Shekhar Krishan, PhD Student, (STS at MIT) Moderated by - Nisha Thompson</td> </tr><tr> </tr><tr> <td> 12:15pm - 01.00pm </td> <td colspan="5">Ignite talks. 6 of them 5 minutes each. <br>1.
